IOLE – Improving Outcomes of Laparoscopy surgery by Education

IOLE - Improving Outcomes of Laparoscopy surgery by Education

The conflict in Ukraine has seen a high number of casualties among military personnel and civilians. SMARTMEDICALAID has actively supported the medical need generated by the war, providing training and supplies to the hospitals and ambulances.

Our work in Ukraine has also shown us that there are many other unmet medical needs which are those affecting the population. The majority of the resources have been deployed to support the victims of the war thus affecting the availability of treatment for the non-war related medical needs.

IOLE (Improving Outcome in Laparoscopic Surgery by Education) is a project designed to establish a formal teaching program to support the development of laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery in Ukraine. The first event we are creating is the "laparoscopic training week" in the city of Lutsk on November 14-18, 2023.

In line with the spirit of the program, the first two days will focus on basic laparoscopic training for junior surgeons, by teaching and by hands-on simulations.

The second part of the course will cover three days of advanced training in laparoscopic colorectal surgery with both teaching and live operating sessions.

A UK team of established colorectal laparoscopic surgeons from the ACGBI (Association of Coloproctology of Great Britain and Ireland) will provide and support the training and the creation of a training laparoscopic centre.

This project is close to our hearts and we ask for your support to fund this initiative.
