The boy who conquered death
Five-year-old Mykhailo lost his mother, grandmother, uncle, and aunt whilst trying to flee their city Mykolaiv. Their vehicles were brutally shot by the russian military and only the father managed to survive. The young boy received severe head injuries from a grenade explosion, but fortunately life won! We managed to evacuate Mykhailyk for proper treatment and rehabilitation. Thanks to the support of our colleagues from the Czech Republic, the boy was transported to one of the best clinics there.
Mykhailyk received the necessary help and treatment he needed. Despite concerns he would never fully recover from such traumatic injuries, his treatment increased his chances of returning to a normal life.
We are happy to share at the start of June young Mykhailyk returned to his city Mykolaiv with his grandmother. After a successful operation and period of rehabilitation in the Czech Republic he has returned home and hopefully to a sense of normality.
Mykhailyk’s story is truly inspiring as it shows how even small children show strength and resilience during a time of war. Mykhailyk is an extraordinary example of how the Ukrainian spirit cannot be broken as we stand united against the enemy.
